![]() In other words Plantinga shows that (1-4) are not on their own contradictory, and that any contradiction must originate from an atheologian's implicit unstated assumptions, assumptions representing premises not stated in the argument itself. Plantinga's free will defense begins by asserting that Mackie's argument failed to establish an explicit logical contradiction between God and the existence of evil. The argument from evil concludes that the existence of the orthodox Christian God is, therefore, incompatible with the existence of evil and can be logically ruled out. ![]() The logical argument from evil asserts that a God with the attributes (1-3), must know about all evil, would be capable of preventing it, and as morally perfect would be motivated to do so. Most orthodox Christian theologians agree with the first three propositions describing God as all-knowing (1), all-powerful (2), and morally perfect (3), and agree with the proposition that there is evil in the world, as described in proposition (4). God is omnibenevolent (morally perfect). ![]() Specifically, the argument from evil asserts that the following set of propositions are, by themselves, logically inconsistent or contradictory: Mackie, and to which the free will defense responds, is an argument against the existence of the Christian God based on the idea that a logical contradiction exists between four theological tenets in orthodox Christian theology. A great reckoning review6/9/2023 ![]() ![]() Two sides of a single coin-it is both a blessing and a curse that former inspector Armand Gamache can see both sides at once. In its modern use, the word “mystery” refers to “something that is difficult or impossible to explain.” However, centuries ago it was used in the theological sense to describe a “secret thing, a mystical truth with hidden meaning.” Louise Penny’s novels have always had that ancient touch of “mystery” in them, and in this latest book featuring Armand Gamache, the story’s complex interplay of murder and morality once again mixes with themes of judgment and mercy. It is nominated for an Agatha Award for Best Novel. A Great Reckoning by Louise Penny A Great Reckoning by New York Times bestselling author Louise Penny is the 12th mystery featuring Chief Inspector Armand Gamache, set in the town of Three Pines. ![]()

Hawk by Tony Hawk6/9/2023 ![]() ![]() Also, in truth, I was only really into watching vert ramp competitions. My knowledge of skating was mostly just dudes on the X Games. I was a newly-minted teenager who had gotten on board but couldn’t do jack shit. ![]() I had been intro skating for a couple of years by the 1999 X Games. Getting that kind of air, and doing that number of spins, is truly crazy. You have to spin so fast, maintain your equilibrium, get a sense of when you’re landing, hope you’ve spun enough to land properly, and then skate away down the ramp. In essence, the 900 is a 900-degree revolution while you are on your board. You likely know what a 900 is, but just in case you don’t it’s simple enough to explain but nearly impossible to land. We will forever be celebrating Tony Hawk’s iconic, instantly indelible moment. It still popped up on social media over the weekend. Even though this is the 21st anniversary, it still feels significant. It is probably my earliest memory related to skateboarding. On June 27, 1999, in a time of Y2K paranoia and genies in a bottle that needed to be rubbed the right way, Tony Hawk landed a 900. Over the weekend, the anniversary of perhaps the biggest moment in skateboarding happened. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() Pornography, she argued, not only constitutes violence against women but it constitutes the main conduit for such violence, of which rape is at once the prime example and the central image. ![]() (The Supreme Court eventually affirmed that the ordinance was unconstitutional in 1986. Published in 1981, Dworkin’s Pornography: Men Possessing Women appeared to have changed the intellectual landscape as well as changing many people’s lives. MacKinnon, she wrote a municipal ordinance that was briefly adopted by several cities that defined pornography as a form of sex discrimination. In the 1980s, along with feminist lawyer Catherine A. by using it for what it is, she wrote in Pornography: Men Possessing Women. Starting with her first book, Woman Hating (1974), Dworkin mapped what she saw as a war against men’s historical domination of women, and made the case against all forms of pornography, which she believed incited violence against women. Andrea Dworkin insisted her writing was about women, but it was about men. A visible presence at anti-pornography rallies and “take back the night” marches, she wrote and lectured extensively on the subjects of sex, sexuality, and violence against women.Īmong her best-known books are Pornography: Men Possessing Women (1981), Intercourse (1987), and Heartbreak: The Political Memoir of a Feminist Militant (2002). Breathless sophie jordan6/8/2023 ![]() ![]() You hate it, and every other sentence you write, because you know you can never really do it justice. A story that literally hounds your every waking thought. You love it because it's this story in your head-something that almost feels real with characters that almost feel real. The ones I probably shouldn't share as a writer.Īs an author, it's normal to both love and hate you're own work. Since I'm telling you bad news, let me give you a sneak peek into my thoughts. Okay, all of my books are special to me in different ways, but this one is special in it's very own different way. All I can say is that this book is special to me. I'm not going into the reasons as to why, but I am sorry it worked this way. And it makes me sick. I know that by pushing the date back, some of you are going to be angry, frustrated, and turned off. I did everything I could to not have this happen. Let me take a moment to say that this is out of my hands. Instead of November 4th, it will be live December 4th. I'm moving the release date of The Accidental Assassin a month back. I'm going to tell you all something that is going to make me the target of some frustrated people. ![]()

![]() A cautionary tale as well as a story of love and sacrifice, 11/22/63 is a book worth stopping time to sit and read. The Washington Post From the infinitely inventive author of How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe, a deeply personal novel about race, pop culture, immigration, assimilation, and escaping the roles we are forced to play. ![]() ![]() This time-traveling epic, which questions our place in the universe, presents a fascinating, sympathetic perspective to watch the entire story unfold from. In addition to contending with stopping a historic turning point, Jake has more to undertake: changing the life of a high school janitor saving a woman from her abusive husband and grappling with how time itself fights to remain the same. When the portal drops him off in the late 1950s, Jake must assume a new identity, trail assassin Lee Harvey Oswald, and find a way to stop one of the most infamous shootings of all time. It’s advice Jake Epping ignores when he accepts one last wish from his dear friend Al: to go back in time through a portal in Al’s diner and save President John F. One of the most parroted rules in time travel is not to change any major historical events, as you don’t know how it’ll change the future. ![]()

Finding Anna by C.C. Masters6/7/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() The new school year is at my family’s doorstep, and I’m beginning to shift my thoughts from summer vacation back to homeschooling and lesson planning. Just like Lewis and Clark, our students will practice honing their observation and drawing skills among the many other subject matter they know. ![]() The lessons below focus on drawing North American animals that the explorers would have come across in their travels. Some animals written about were squirrels (their dog Seaman caught them, and they fried them up for food), pronghorn antelope, prairie dogs (other names they came up with were “ground rat” and “burrowing squirrel”), and the jackrabbit to name a few. They had to know about medicine, botany, astronomy, zoology, geography… and drawing! In journals they described and sketched many animals they saw during the trip. One thing that stuck with me was the breadth of skill and knowledge that Lewis and Clark needed to lead such a unique mission. I didn’t know much about their journey before this, but was quickly amazed by what they and their companions encountered and experienced. We listened to the book Seaman: The Dog Who Explored the West with Lewis and Clark, visited the Lewis and Clark National Historical Park, and relaxed in the beauty of the Oregon coast. My family and I took a road trip a few years back, following part of the route that Lewis and Clark took to the Pacific Ocean. ![]() |
